Lady Gaga

ARTPOP (Interscope Records) Citing “grandmother of performance art” Marina Abramovic as her muse, Mother Monster returns with the most introspective, focused release of her career. Extensive hip surgery cut short her record-breaking tour Born This Way Ball, but Gaga used her recovery time well, spending a significant period at the Marina Abramovic Institute, where she formed a close bond with the legendary performance artist. The pair made plans to collaborate on a piece with iconic visual artist Jeff Koons (who also designed the album’s cover art). Lyrically, ARTPOP finds Lady Gaga writing about her fears, vulnerabilities and personal struggles like never before. Musically, she expands upon her ‘90s dance-infused palette by adding hip-hop and R&B elements to the mix. Highlights include club anthems “Aura” and “Sexxx Dreams” and the heartbreaking ballad “Dope.” Like Björk, Gaga will simultaneously release ARTPOP as an album and interactive app. Follow her on Twitter @ladygaga for announcements about her 2014 world tour.
