True Blood Drinks & Bites

True Blood Fans say: Sip Something Red and Shaken.

If you can’t get enough of the vampires, werewolves and fairies of True Blood, you might want to take a page out of the cookbook True Blood Drinks & Bites (Chronicle Books, $14). A collection of drinks and nibbles inspired by the neck-nibblers that steam up the screen on summer Sunday nights, these recipes are just the thing to serve at a killer Halloween party or to take the edge off while you wait for next season’s dose of Alexander Skarsgård, Joe Manganiello, Ryan Kwanten and the rest of the boys of Bon Temps.

True Death

  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1½ oz. silver tequila
  • 3½ oz. fresh orange juice
  • ice cubes
  • 1 tsp. grenadine
  • 1 tsp. crème de cassis

Put cocktail glass in freezer to chill. Squeeze the juice from the lime wedge into a cocktail shaker, and then pour in the tequila and orange juice. Add ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into chilled glass. Spoon the grenadine down the side of the glass and let it sink to the bottom. Do the same with the crème de cassis. Serve right away.
