Blown Away
(Arista Nashville/19 Recordings) Respected and awarded (many times) over the last five years for her fierce country crossover anthems, Carrie Underwood’s latest release has the American Idol–winner delving into new territory: her darker side. Thematically, Blown Away tackles a wide range of incredibly emotional topics such as revenge, regret and infidelity. Key tracks include the cleverly titled “Cupid’s Got a Shotgun,” “Good Girl,” “Leave Love Alone” and the album’s gorgeous closer, “Who Are You.”
In similar fashion to fellow Idol-winner Kelly Clarkson, Underwood is clearly hoping to connect to her audience by unleashing her personal demons and frustrations in the form of irresistibly catchy pop songs. It seems like that tactic will prove to be a success as Blown Away is on target to sell a million copies by Labor Day. Additionally, her entire summer tour sold out mere minutes after tickets went on sale. Expect Carrie to receive multiple Grammy, AMA, Billboard and CMA nominations for this fantastic, courageous album.
