Hit the Spa

From China to Washington, D.C., we’ve gathered five spectacular spas, guaranteed to pamper you — wherever you are in the world.

When it comes time for your vacation, you deserve the ultimate in relaxation. To ensure you end up with an unforgettable spa experience, Metrosource sought out five of the world’s most decadent spa destinations, with treatments that would melt anyone’s worries away.

Mission Hills Volcanic Mineral Springs and Spa
No. 1 Mission Hills Boulevard
Haikou, China
heading to the middle kingdom? make room on your itinerary for the Mission Hills Volcanic Mineral Springs and Spa, the world’s largest spa destination. Designed by San Francisco-based architecture firm SB Architects, the spa is located within the volcanic region on China’s southernmost Hainan Island — sometimes referred to as “China’s Hawaii.” Measuring an incredible 21 acres, the indoor/outdoor spa complex is home to the region’s largest natural springs reserve. These springs are organized into different geographical “zones” — named after Asia and Oceania, North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa — where guests can experience treatments from around the world. Each of the five zones is home to more than 40 pools featuring different ingredients, bathing experiences and temperatures, honoring the centuries-old bathing rituals and healing philosophies from that particular region. You’ll find a hot-stone bath, foot reflexology tunnel and Lingzhi Spring in the Asia zone. There is a replication of a Turkish hamman and a salute to the Dead Sea in the Middle East zone. The Americas feature grotto springs, Amazon River aqua massage therapy and “Red Indian” hot sand baths, and the European zone hosts an indoor Roman bath.

Grooming Lounge, DC
1745 L Street, NW
Washington, DC
for years, has been a one-stop shop for a diverse collection of grooming brands. Now the men of the nation’s capital can always look their best with the brick-and-mortar location in DC, a premier destination offering a variety of classic services ranging from hot-lather shaves to haircuts, skin care and massages. Try “The Supreme Court” package ($460), which includes a Super Stoner Massage, Cleansing Face Treatment, Hot Lather Shave, Executive Manicure and Executive Foot Treatment.

Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa
in Miami Beach
6801 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, Florida
For more than 30 years, Canyon Ranch has been empowering people to live healthier, longer, more joyful lives through fitness, nutrition, stress management and integrative wellness. Now the resort comes to Miami Beach, bringing the life-enhancing programs for which the Canyon Ranch health resorts are famed. Housed in the modernized and restored Carillon Hotel, Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach is situated on more than 700 feet of un-crowded white beach, providing a tranquil setting for spending downtime. Relax in the ocean or pool before heading off to exciting activities (a climb on the two-story indoor rock-climbing wall or a work out at South Florida’s largest fitness facility). Then, take it easy with treatments at the spa Aquavana, which boasts heated loungers, a crystal steam room and more.

Auriga Spa at The Setai Fifth Avenue
400 Fifth Avenue
New York City, New York
New Yorkers know the value of their time, and the team at the Auriga Spa kept this in mind when they created “The New York Minute” spa menu, a collection of results-oriented services, each taking approximately 15 to 30 minutes, designed to be done simultaneously with multiple therapists. But it’s not all hustle and bustle: Auriga Spa’s treatments incorporate lunar cycles, organic ingredients and time-honored European traditions, and most can either be shared or experienced alone. With 11 private treatment rooms, experiential showers, vitality pools, a sauna, a steam room and fitness/yoga studio, the full-service spa is the ultimate place to take a break from the city that never sleeps.

Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace
3570 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, Nevada
When it comes to Las Vegas, you may think of slots before spas. Still, the team at the Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace is waiting with a 50,000-square-foot facility that includes 51 treatment rooms in which you can unwind. Their impressive list of services spans from traditional facials and massages to more unique offerings, including an Arctic Ice Room, where “snow” falls from above. Its new Chocolate Decadence Facial ($120) even captures the spirit of a Vegas dessert buffet. This hydrating and anti-aging facial — using exotic cocoa derived from the Amazon — begins with a milky facial cleanser to wash away impurities, add hydration and deliver powerful antioxidants, followed by a chocolate facial peel to hydrate, reverse sun damage and help to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. Enjoy it solo or with someone special in Qua’s signature couples’ facial suite.
